Yellow over blue over red
The right hand of this design is Colombia, and it is the simplest in the whole series: a wide golden yellow band filling the fingers and the top of the hand, a deep blue band across the middle, a red band along the bottom edge. No crest, no seal, nothing to crowd it. The left hand is the United States, stars on blue out along the forearm and red and white stripes over the fingers. The two hands meet and hold a heart shaped opening between them that is left black, the shirt showing through. PERFECT HERITAGE runs below in thin white capitals, spaced wide.
Who it’s for
Miami, Queens, Newark, Orlando. A Colombian American heritage shirt tends to be bought by someone in their twenties or thirties, and worn without any nostalgia at all. It is a present tense thing: a graduation, a Colombia match on a Saturday afternoon, a cookout, a trip to the airport to pick somebody up.
The detail that matters
The yellow band is drawn twice as deep as each of the other two, exactly as on the flag, and that is the only proportion in this design that has to be right. The rest of the series follows the same discipline, beginning with the Guatemalan American Perfect Heritage Heart Tee.
