Czech American Perfect Heritage Heart Tee
For the branch of the family that came over from Bohemia and never quite stopped talking about it.
Sizes, colors and shipping are handled on the Amazon page.
Bohemia on one hand, the Stars and Stripes on the other
The left hand is the United States, stars out on the forearm, red and white stripes across the fingers. The right hand is the Czech Republic: a blue triangle whose flat edge runs down the heart side of the hand and covers the curled fingers, its point aimed outward along the arm, with a white band above it and a red band below it. The two hands meet in the middle and the space they leave is a heart, unfilled, so the black of the shirt shows straight through. Below, in thin white capitals stretched wide, PERFECT HERITAGE. The whole thing is drawn in clean black outline, nothing shaded, nothing crowded.
Who it’s for
Czech heritage in America usually arrives through grandparents rather than through a plane ticket, and this Czech American heritage shirt is built for that. Texas and Nebraska and Iowa are full of families who still make kolaches at Christmas and can name the village but have never seen it. Wear it to a family reunion and someone older will start telling you a story you had not heard.
The detail that matters
The blue triangle sits on the hoist side of the flag, the side turned toward the heart, and the white band lies above the red instead of under it. Small things, but people from the country check them first. The rest of the series is built the same way, starting with the Guatemalan American Perfect Heritage Heart Tee.
