El Salvador, hand to hand with the United States
The left hand wears the American flag, stars on blue out along the forearm, red and white stripes running over the knuckles. The right hand wears El Salvador: a strong cobalt blue band across the fingers, a white band through the middle of the hand, cobalt blue again along the bottom, and the national coat of arms drawn on that white band across the back of the hand, the triangle with its volcanoes and rainbow, wrapped in the words of the republic. Where the hands meet, a heart is left completely open, so the shirt fills it in black. PERFECT HERITAGE runs underneath in thin white capitals.
Who it’s for
Los Angeles, Houston, and the row houses of Washington DC, where a Salvadoran American heritage shirt needs no explaining at all. It suits a mother who arrived in the eighties, a son born here who visits every other year, and the friend who shows up for pupusas on a Sunday and has become family anyway.
The detail that matters
The blue is cobalt, not sky blue, and that is the whole difference with Guatemala next door. The Guatemalan American Perfect Heritage Heart Tee uses the paler blue, and side by side you cannot mistake one for the other.
