The shirt is the pumpkin

Nothing is drawn but the carved face, at the scale of the chest, in flat orange. Two wide curved eyes sit at the top, angled towards each other. Below them a long grin cuts across, with three squared teeth left standing in the gap. The words run inside the face rather than around it: I’M A TREAT across the eyes, NOT A TRICK across the grin, in white rounded capitals with a thin dark outline. There is no pumpkin outline anywhere. The black of the shirt is the pumpkin.

Who it’s for

Anyone who wants to be read from the other side of a room, and the one person at the party who refuses to wear a costume but will wear a statement.

The detail that matters

The missing outline is the whole design. Draw the pumpkin and it becomes a picture of a pumpkin on a shirt; leave it out and the fabric does the work, the way the black leaves the heart open on our heritage designs. It only works on black, which is how it is printed.
