A skeleton with nowhere to be

The print is drawn in white line work on the black of the shirt. A bare tree fills the upper half, its branches knotted and splitting into thin twigs that reach past the shoulders. At its foot sits a full skeleton, leaning back against the trunk, one arm folded up behind the skull, the other hanging over a raised knee, legs stretched out and crossed at the ankle. Above the branches, hand brushed and slightly tilted, one word: BOO-RING.

Who it’s for

The Halloween that happens on a porch rather than at a party. Somebody has to sit by the door with the bowl, and this is what that looks like after the third wave of trick or treaters.

The detail that matters

The whole joke is a hyphen. BOO-RING is the word boring with the Halloween BOO put back into it, and nothing on the shirt explains that, because a joke that explains itself stops being one. The skeleton’s pose does the rest: it is not scary, it is waiting for this to be over.
