This print is laid out like a page pulled from a factory manual. Across the top, in heavy white Cyrillic, sits the name of the man himself: Михаил in an initial cap, КАЛАШНИКОВ in full capitals. Below it the rifle runs almost the full width of the chest in profile, drawn with real care. The stock, handguard and pistol grip are reddish brown wood, the receiver and barrel are cold gunmetal, the curved magazine is black, and the gas block and front sight are picked out in a lighter gray. To the right of the magazine, a small stack of white text does exactly what a spec plate does, listing the caliber at 7.62 mm, the length at 380/645 mm and the weight at 3.8 kg. Along the bottom, in red capitals ringed with a thin white outline, one last line: СОВЕРШЕННОЕ ОРУЖИЕ, the perfect weapon.

The detail that matters

The Cyrillic stays Cyrillic. Most AK prints translate everything into English and lose the one thing that gives the rifle its accent. Here the name across the top and the line along the bottom are left in Russian, so the people who read it read it and the people who don’t end up asking. Second detail: the warm brown furniture. Against black cotton it is what keeps the whole thing from flattening into a stencil at ten feet.
