Not the punchiest primer in the box

This one is pure lettering, and the lettering is in French. Three lines of white brush caps sit centered in the upper third of the shirt, painted rather than typed, with the dry drag of a real brush visible at the ends of the strokes and each line slightly narrower than the one above. They read: “T’es pas l’amorce la plus percutante de la boite”. Nothing else appears, no gun, no cartridge, no border, no color other than white on black. The joke is a shooting sport twist on an old insult. An amorce is the primer, and percutante shares its root with percuteur, the French word for firing pin, so the line lands somewhere between “not the sharpest tool in the shed” and a dud round that will not go off.

Who it’s for

Clubs. This is the shirt somebody buys for the friend who misses the plate twice and blames the wind both times. A French shooting joke shirt also does honest work in a French American household, where one half of the room gets it instantly and the other half asks for the translation, which is usually the better part of the evening.

The detail that matters

The brush lettering. Set in a clean typeface, the line would read as a slogan. Handpainted and slightly uneven, it reads as something a person actually said, which is exactly the register a club joke needs.
