A skull assembled entirely out of ammunition
Step back and you see a human skull, front on, filling the chest. Step in and it dissolves: every square inch of bone is made of cartridge cases seen from the base, hundreds of circles in brass gold, nickel silver and gunmetal gray, each with its primer and rim drawn in, packed tight and sized down toward the edges to follow the curve of the cranium and the cheekbones. A few cases lie on their sides among the circles, catching the light along their length. The eye sockets and the triangular nasal opening are left as bare black shirt, which is what gives the face its depth. The teeth are the best part: the mouth is packed with full cartridges stood on end, nickel and silver cases with pale copper bullet tips, most of them nose up, so the bite line reads as a rank of loose rounds rather than enamel. There is no text anywhere on the design.

Collectors, reloaders, and anyone who spends the end of a range day picking brass off the ground. A bullet skull shirt carries a lot of graphic weight without a single word on it, which keeps it out of argument territory and lets the artwork stand by itself.
The detail that matters
The two viewing distances. Mosaic designs usually fail at one end or the other, either turning to mush from a distance or falling flat up close. This one is drawn with enough tonal contrast between the gold and the nickel to hold the skull shape at twenty feet, and with enough detail in each case head to reward a second look at arm’s length.
