A ticket nobody punched

The print is one object, reproduced at the size of a hand across the chest: a first class Paris metro ticket, on aged cream paper with scalloped perforations down both sides. A thin black frame runs around the inside. METROPOLITAIN arches across the top in a heavy condensed serif, DE sits under it, then PARIS, then the class, 1ere, beside the word Classe in a lighter face. Behind the wording, printed faint, an engraving of a stone facade and the Eiffel Tower at the right edge. Two lines of small capitals run vertically up the outer edges, inside the perforations: A DETACHER AVANT LE CONTROLE on the left, A LA SORTIE JETER DANS LA BOITE on the right.

Who it’s for

Anyone who kept one of these in a coat pocket and found it three years later. Paris ended the carnet in 2021, so the object on this shirt no longer exists, which is exactly why it works: it is a souvenir of a thing rather than a souvenir of a city.

The detail that matters

The wording is left in French and it is left uncorrected. A detacher avant le controle means tear off before inspection, and a la sortie jeter dans la boite means drop it in the box on your way out. Translating either one would turn a real object into a tourist item, so neither was touched.
